Spring is lightning season here in North Texas, and a very busy time of year for us. Unfortunately, most people don't realize there can be a big difference between Surge Protection and Lightning Protection -- several million volts worth of difference. The majority of "surge protectors" we see installed here amount to nothing more than Outlet Strips, and after a lightning strike is not the best time to find out your 'protection' is inadequate.
It's not the lightning that hits your house you have to worry about -- nothing will protect you except unplugging every cable from your equipment and placing it in the middle of a room. it's the lightning that hits your neighbor's house across the street and down 3 houses that will fry your computer (and maybe all your data).
